BEATING CANCER DIET

These guidelines are not intended to be prescriptive but for information purpose only. Always contact your physician concerning all medical conditions.
The information in these guidelines is largely derived from the following sources:
·        “Beating Cancer with Nutrition” by Dr. Patrick Quillin
·        “Beating Cancer” by Francisco Contreras, MD and Daniel Kennedy, MC
·        “The Seven Pillars of Health” by Don Colbert, MD
·        “God’s Health Plan, What is it?” Lorraine Day, MD

THE BASICS:
Ø  Water: This is vital to good health and healing. The body is about 70% water.
o   Drink at least half of your body weight equivalent in ounces each day. i.e. 200 pound person should drink 100 ounces of water per day. Only water counts in the total drunk per day. (coffee, pop, milk etc. do not count)
o   Drink clean water. Water treated by Reverse Osmosis (RO) is best. RO should be treated however with an alkalizer to raise ph slightly. Most tap water is badly contaminated. Visit www.ewg.org for the water quality of your city.
o   Do not drink more than 4 ounces at mealtime. i.e. no drinking for half an hour before meals and an hour after. Drinking liquids at mealtime severely dilutes digestive juices and adversely affects digestion.
Ø  Other drinks: Enjoy caffeine free herb teas, Rooibos Tea, Green Tea and soy milk. Avoid pop, coffee and alcohol. Do not drink fruit juices due to high glycemic index.
Ø  Eat Raw: Raw food is always the best as phytonutrients have not been destroyed. These are critical for cell health and deadly for cancer.
o   Try to achieve a level where about 50% by weight of what you eat is raw.
o   Shop only around the perimeter of the grocery store, not down the aisles. If it doesn’t rot or sprout don’t eat it.
o   Anti-oxidants like lycopene in tomatoes is essential for helping our bodies deal with free radicals.
o   Organic is best if affordable. Wash vegetables and salads well if not using organic. Many pesticides can be neutralized by including 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar per gallon of wash water.
o   Eat plenty of green and colorful vegetables. These have good levels of phytochemicals and green does help with detoxification of the body.
o   Consume fruit in abundance, especially low glycemic value fruits like apples, plums, pears grapefruit and most non-tropical fruits. All dark berries are excellent and contain ellagic acid, a phytonutrient which is deadly for cancer.
Ø  Avoid all refined sugar: Cancer is an ‘obligate glucose metabolizer’ i.e. feeds on sugar. Check food labels carefully to avoid refined sugar in all forms including high fructose corn syrup.
o   Avoid aspartame and use stevia if sweetening is required.
Ø  Avoid all white foods like white bread, white rice, corn and white potatoes. Starches in these reduce to sugar rapidly and feed cancer.
o   Use sprouted grain breads (like Ezekiel bread) and also whole wheat pastas.
o   Eat sweet potatoes / yams and brown rice.
Ø  Protein: Amino acids in protein are the building block for body cells.
o   Eat red meat in moderation. Never more than a 6 ounce serving. Always choose the leanest cuts and preferably grass fed beef or game.
o   Eat small ocean fish frequently like salmon. Larger fish and fresh water fish store up heavy metals like mercury.
o   Other good proteins include soy tofu, cottage cheese, non fat plain yoghurt and many nuts. Almonds are very beneficial and make a great snack. Avoid peanuts due to the risk of aflotoxin.
o   Try to get more protein from vegetable and less from animal. Adding soy products and nuts makes this easier to achieve. The Chinese who have a much lower cancer rate than western countries derive only 10% of protein from animal sources. The average westerner derives about 60% of protein from animals.
Ø  Fats / oils:
o   Omega 3’s are essential for good health. A good source of these is flax seed which can be ground and included in various meals.
o   Use virgin oils like olive oil. Never use any hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils / fats.
o   Find recipes for healthy salad dressing – easy to make at home using flaxseed or olive oil and other ingredients. If using on the shelf salad dressings look for those with the lowest added sugar.
o   In general avoid animal fat – never eat the skin on chicken.
Ø  Fiber: Vital for healthy bowel function and elimination of toxins.
o   Eating plenty of raw foods will assist in bringing sufficient fiber into daily diet.
o   High fiber foods like oats are excellent for sustained bowel regularity. This helps avoid bowel stagnation, resultant gut rot and consequent cancer risk.
o   Sufficient fiber and water consumption will result in multiple bowel movements per day which is desirable.
Ø  Juicing of green vegetables: This is an extremely effective fighter against cancer. It helps carry out toxins, raise body ph and the phytochemicals called indoles are deadly for cancer.
o   Juice cabbage on a regular basis. Include kale and broccoli.
o   Drink at least 8 ounces of cabbage juice per day.
o   If juicing more than is usable in one day then freeze juice immediately and then place in refrigerator after an hour.
o   Do not drink juiced fruit due to  high glycemic index.
Ø  Supplements: As soils become depleted and even raw foods are often lacking in sufficient nutrients, supplements are a good idea in moderation.
o   Choose a multivitamin that contains all 13 vitamins and 17 to 22 minerals with 100% of daily values.
o   Take a source of omega-3 fats to obtain daily requirement.
o   Find a phytonutrient powder at a health store to take on a daily use.
Ø  Exercise: Essential to create/establish sufficient circulation and oxygenation.
o   At least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise per day is necessary. Preferably more if possible.
Ø  Spiritual peace:
o   Excess stress is known to cause many health problems due to excess adrenaline and hormone activity.
o   A relationship with God reduces stress.
o   Daily prayer and Bible study are essential to a vibrant relationship with God.
